Cold crystalloid cardioplegia.
Cold crystalloid cardioplegia is clinically used since the mid-1960s. It is currently applied in adult and pediatric cardiac surgery patients and remains the preferred method of myocardial protection for many cardiac surgeons. This chapter gives a brief overview about the technical aspects of cold crystalloid cardioplegia application in the operating room.
متن کاملMyocardial oxygen tension during surgical revascularization. A clinical comparison between blood cardioplegia and crystalloid cardioplegia.
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the effect of cardioplegic solutions on myocardial oxygenation during surgical revascularization. METHODS In 30 patients, randomized to receive crystalloid (CC) or blood (BC) cardioplegia, myocardial oxygen tension was measured continuously by polarography. RESULTS The two groups were comparable in terms of patients' age, sex, pre-operative ejec...
متن کاملIs crystalloid cardioplegia a strong predictor of intra-operative hemodilution?
INTRODUCTION Complications due to hemodilution (hematocrit value less than 22%) after cardiopulmonary bypass inevitably resulted with significantly greater intensive care requirements, long hospital stays, more operative costs, and increased mortality rates. We tried to identify whether crystalloid cardioplegia is the strongest predictor of intraoperative hemodilution or not. MATERIALS AND ME...
متن کاملConsistent Two to Four Degree Crystalloid Potassium Cardioplegia
_____________ _ The use of hypothermic crystalloid potassium cardioplegia in open heart surgery has been shown to be effective in arresting the heart and protecting it from ischemic injury during aortic crossclamping. A perfusion technique for the routine delivery of 2-4° centigrade (C) crystalloid potassium cardioplegia has been employed in 116 consecutive coronary artery bypass graft procedur...
متن کاملEffects of original crystalloid cardioplegia followed by additional blood cardioplegia: treatments for prolonged cardiac arrest.
PURPOSE The efficacy of combination treatment of original cold crystalloid cardioplegia (SHA solution; St. Thomas + Histidine + ATP + oxygen) and additional blood cardioplegia was studied in patients who required cardiac arrest time of 120 minutes or longer. METHODS One hundred and thirty-six patients were included in this study. Patients were divided into two groups according to the cardiac ...
